But Open signing is required for a freeware too (as legal but depends) Croozeus
Sorry I should have been more precise.

I meant "Open Signed Online" not "Open Signing".

If I issue a free application using the testing range then, until Symbian change the rules again, anyone can use "Open Signed Online to grant the Location, ReadUserData, and ReadDeviceData capabilities. Symbian need not be involved in any 'certification' or 'testing' process for this to work.

Now it is time for a small rant:

I have to say that in my opinion if Microsoft made it this difficult for me to run my code on my machine people would start to make accusations of anti-competitive practice.

The owner of the machine should have the right to grant whatever privileges he wants for whatever period he wants and to whomever he wants.

If any other operating system offers me more freedom to use my own property as I wish (including though I hate to say it, Windows) it is very unlikely that I would ever buy a Symbian based mobile again. And, because Nokia is either driving Symbian to do this or acquiescing in it Nokia is also on my exclusion list (along with Sony for the rootkit).
